'CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Unbelievabowl is a food truck packed with healthy eats and the potential to change lives. Its primary goal is to serve those in high poverty areas. Brandon Whitaker is the executive director for Unbelievabowl, which is Ohio’s first nonprofit food truck to provide fresh and healthy food, regardless of the ability to pay. “One out of every three people in Cincinnati live at or below the poverty line, so we try and help them to eat healthier and to get an extra meal. That’s kind of the very base of it,” Whitaker said. The truck was supposed to launch its service in March 2020, but because of the coronavirus pandemic, Whitaker said they did not have the finances to do so. “COVID hit and literally all the gigs I had from March through July just canceled,” Whitaker said. “There’s two real revenue streams that we have to function: One is grants, and a lot of grants during COVID went to very large, established charities. So the other one is more of a traditional food truck going to corporate lunches or things like that, but big offices aren’t meeting and bars weren’t there and their large events are still canceled.” With their prime funding gone, Whitaker\'s dream to get the food truck rolling took an unforeseen halt. “He’s the one who is prepping all the food. He’s the one who’s taking the truck out. He’s the one going out to the communities and serving free food to people who need it, so why don’t we just give him the backing that he needs?” Anthony Lange, the president of Queen City Mobile Food Truck Association, said. The support comes from the latest raffle put on by the Queen City Mobile Food Truck Association. “Our goal was to raise $150,000, build out a brand new food truck, give it to whomever wins it,” Lange said. “Thirty percent of the proceeds that we raise then go to ‘Unbelieveabowl’ and, that way, it helps him fund taking food out into the community.” While it may be a few months later than originally planned, the mission remains the same. “We treat everyone equal. We think everybody should be able to have a healthy meal and we want people eating side by side. Food is something that brings people together, and, right now, we all need to come together,” Whitaker said. “Now that we have this [fundraiser], we’re going to be able to launch in July thanks to it.” The fundraiser ends at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday.
