'I started my day with Sita Ram chole Bhature, any words of appreciation will fall short of praise for the taste of masala of chana at this 50 year old shop. Walking down to explore street food places to eat in Paharganj takes maximum 10 to 15 minutes. I started the day at 10 am and ended at 7 pm, apart from exploring food, i did some shopping at Main Bazar, which is opposite New Delhi Railway station. Listing down names and addresses of food spots i visited during my street food day out at Paharganj, Delhi. 1. Sita Ram Diwan chand; Most popular shop of Chole Bhature, many food lovers of India claim this place to make best Bhature of India. Address: 2243, RajGuru marg, Chuna Mandi, Paharganj, Delhi- 110055. Landmark: Near Imperial cinema. 10 minutes walking distance from RK ashram metro station. Timings: Morning 8 am to 5 pm, no guarantee chole and kulche can finish at 2.30 or 3 Pm. If going to this shop go early. 2. Radhey shyam chole Bhature: This shop is opposite New Delhi Railway station, Paharganj side. No less than Sita Ram chole Bhature shop. Difference of taste and preparation of Bhature and chole at this shop. Fluffy & Crispy Bhatura with chana that melts in mouth without any effort. Address: 7, Amrit kaur market, opposite New Delhi Railway station. Timings: Morning 8 am to 5 pm or at times stock may finish at 3 pm. 3. Janta sweets: It should take you 15 minutes from New Delhi railway station, serves Dal samosa, something that i had for the 1st time. Boiled Moong dal filled as filling in the samosa instead of potato. I tried Malpua as well with Halwa, samosa with Malpua was a good combo. Shop owner claimed that he started selling Dal samosa in Delhi for the 1st time 40 years back. Address: 9360/61, Outside Gali number 8, Multani Danda, Paharganj. Timings for samosa: 1 pm to 8 pm. 4. Multani chawal chole and Geela kulcha: Unique concept, kulcha is dipped in soup of chole and then soaked with chole and served with chutney. Interesting concept, i tried this kind of dish for 1st time. Owner claims that they introduced this concept 40 years back. Address of shop: 8210, in outside gali number 5 or 6. Multani danda, Paharganj. Timings 11 am to 9 pm 5. Madras cafe: I loved the sambar at this shop, It gave me a feeling as if i am in Madras enjoying Masala Dosa. Address: Madras cafe, 8301/4, Multani Danda Paharganj, New Delhi. Timings: Morning 10 am to 9 pm. 6. Chawla de Mashoor chur chur naan: High on butter but that’s what cur chur naan is about. I tried aloo pyaj filling chur chur naan. In my opinion this is the best chur chur naan i have ever had in Delhi. Owner highlighted that Mr. Vinod Dua from NDTV had also visited his shop and enjoyed Chur chur naan and later showed it on NDTV channel. Address: 8955, Chowk Multani Danda, Paharganj. Landmark: opposite Bikaner sweets. Timings: Morning 11 am to 10 pm. 7. Bankey Bihari Samosa: Samosa has a potato filling, simple one but masala of potato can drive any samosa lover crazy. I also enjoyed Gulab jamun at this shop, soft and fresh, served on the same day of cooking. Address: 3179, Sangtrasham road, Paharganj, Landmark- opposite Multani Danda chowk. Timings for samosa: 1 pm to 8 pm. Timings for Gulab Jamun: 1 pm to 8 pm. 8. Savariya ji Golgappe wale: Provides 5 types of water with gol gappe, that is the biggest USP of this stall. It reminded me of this kind of Gol gappe at Amritsar. Address: since this is a stall, no proper address, location is opposite Imperial cinema, Paharganj, this road further goes to Sita ram Bhatura shop. Stall timings - Evening 5.30 pm to 10 pm. Paharganj has some of the famous street food of India, Heaven for food lovers. If you are travelling to Delhi, you may want to stay at Paharganj because of two big reasons… Centrally located, connaught place is hardly 1 km from paharganj. Another thing its easy to find budget hotel, in my opinion there are more than 500 hotels in 3 sq. km area of Paharganj. Not only budget hotels, you can find hotels from 1 start category to 4 star category at Paharganj. If you have travelled to Paharganj before, share your experience on food with us.
