'Stealing eggs from venomous ants. The common name of this species is \"Giant Bull Ant\" or Myrmecia gulosa in Latin. Bull Ants possess a sting and a venom gland in their abdomen. This is undoubtedly the toughest ant species in Australia. Like all ants their skeleton (exoskeleton) is on the outside of their bodies, but Bull Ants have a particularly hardened exoskeleton. Unfortunately for the Bull Ants their eggs are soft and chewy ;-) The sting of a Bull Ant is quite painful, as a child I was stung many times. Luckily I now haven\'t been stung for over 25 years. It is very common to get stung around the ankle and lower leg. Bull Ants are very brave and aggressive insects, they will climb up your leg to sting you. The best defence against this is to simply wear long pants and pull your socks up over your trousers; in this video I am also wearing Snake Proof gaiters. I also periodically look down at my lower leg to check there are no Bull Ants climbing up me ;-) DISCLAIMER I am not recommending that Bull Ant larvae (or pupa) should be one\'s sole source of food. But in a desperate survival situation this could be one possible food source option. I have not conducted laboratory tests on the nutritional values of Bull Ant Eggs, if you choose to eat their eggs you do so at your own risk and you are responsible for your own health.
