'(10 Jun 2009) HEADLINE: New robots could make hosting a party a breeze CAPTION: Japanese engineers demonstrated robots that can cook and serve food and drinks. (June 10) [Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] [Notes:DATELINE: Tokyo - 10 June 2009] IT\'S NOT QUITE ROSIE FROM THE JETSONS, BUT PERHAPS ONE DAY YOU\'LL HAVE A ROBOT LIKE THIS ONE SLAVING AWAY OVER A HOT STOVE. THIS COOKING ROBOT WAS ON DISPLAY IN TOKYO WEDNESDAY. IT\'S TWO ARMS WITH FINGERS CAN MAKE A TRADITIONAL JAPANESE PANCAKE. THE DOWNSIDE--IT HAS NO SENSORS OR EYES SO ALL EQUIPMENT AND INGREDIENTS MUST BE POSITIONED PERFECTLY SO IT AN COOK. (Japanese/ Narito Hosomi, chief executive officer Toyo Riki Company: \"What was difficult in developing this robot was to control force and balance of its movement so that the pancake would not jump over the frying board when it flips over.\") THE CEO OF THE COMPANY THAT MADE THE CHEF-BOT SAYS IT WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE FORCE AND BALANCE OF ITS MOVEMENT SO THE PANCAKE WOULDN\'T JUMP OVER THE COOKING SURFACE WHEN IT\'S FLIPPED OVER. ENGINEERS ALSO SHOWED OFF A SERVING ROBOT. IT BALANCES ON TWO WHEELS WHILE CARRYING DRINKS AND FOOD. IT WOULD MAKE HOSTING PARTIES A LOT EASIER, BUT UNFORTUNATELY, ITS MAKER HAS NO PLANS TO PUT THE WAITER-BOT ON THE MARKET.
