'Welcome to the seventh event in our Future Food Series! This time, we are diving into the topic of precision fermentation.  The topic: Fermentation is fast becoming a game changer for the alternative protein industry, and precision fermentation companies are at the forefront of this trend. The technology makes it possible to programme microorganisms to produce complex organic molecules, such as milk proteins. The resulting ingredients are identical to animal-based ones and can be used to formulate the next generation of foods. A big bulk of the growing investment in fermentation startups is raised by precision fermentation companies, such as Perfect Day in the US. In 2021, the Berlin-based ProVeg Incubator alumnus Formo secured €42 million in funding – the largest Series-A food-tech round in Europe to date.
