'Faunalytics Explains: Are Plant-Based Food Labels Confusing?'

'Welcome to \"Faunalytics Explains!\" In these videos, we share key insights and takeaways from one of the many important animal advocacy studies available in our Research Library.  Recently, animal agriculture industries have tried to use legislation to ban terms like “meat” or “milk” for products that don’t contain animal-based ingredients. This legislation is based on the argument that using such terms confuses customers and causes them to buy plant-based food under false pretenses. This study explored whether animal product names on plant-based foods *actually* confuse consumers. The key takeaways:  1) Animal terms for plant-based foods do not confuse consumers. 2) Prohibiting terms like \"meat\" and \"milk\" for plant-based foods may actually cause more confusion for consumers.  In other words, legislation to prohibit such terms for plant-based foods may undermine its very goals!
