'I’ve been staying at home for the most part over the past few months. Life was slow, and the weather was dull, interchanging between rain and snow. Spring didn’t seem to be coming. So I’ve been searching for ways to entertain myself at home. I bought some beeswax blocks back in November, which I’ve been meaning to use up this whole time. So I guess the time has come. I wanted to share with you some simple recipes using beeswax and only 1-3 ingredients. They are all pretty easy to make. Intro: 00:00 2 ingredient beeswax candles - 00:27 3 ingredient beeswax lip balms - 04:31 1 ingredient beeswax food wrap - 06:51 Outro: 09:42 RECIPES 1. Beeswax candles: - You will only need equal measurements of beeswax and coconut oil. - If you have a beeswax block like I do, then chop the block into small pieces. - Spray or coat all the utensils and bowls you’re using for this recipe with coconut oil or cooking oil beforehand. - Then combine equal amounts of coconut oil and beeswax in the same bowl. Melt above the boiling water bath. Be patient, as beeswax takes a while to melt. - I’ve used empty glass yoghurt jars and thick cotton twine which you can find at grocery or gardening stores. - Secure the cotton twine to the bottom of the jar with hot glue. You can also secure it by pouring a bit of hot wax into the bottom of the jar and placing one end of the twine on top. Let it cool so that it sticks properly. - Pour the rest of your melted beeswax & coconut oil into the jars. - Dip the twine into the wax, or otherwise you won’t be able to burn it. - Decorate with dry flowers. 2. Beeswax lip balms: - The measurement here would be 1 to 2 (beeswax to oil) - Let’s say you’re using 100g of beeswax, then you’d need 200g of oil. Or 1 cup of beeswax to 2 cups of oil. - If you want even creamier balm, then use 1 to 3 measurement. So 1 cup of beeswax to 3 cups of oil. - I used 1 cup of beeswax, 2 cups of shea butter and 20 drops of jojoba oil. - Melt the beeswax and oils together over the boiling water. - Pour into any containers of your choice and let them cool. - If you don’t have access to shea butter and jojoba, you can substitute those with cacao butter, olive oil, almond oil or coconut oil. If you’re using beeswax and cacao butter, I’d recommend doing 1 wax to 3 butter measurement. If you’re using a more liquid oil like olive or almond, I’d recommend keeping it to 1 wax to 2 oil measurement. 3. Beeswax food wraps: - You’d need very fine pieces of beeswax in this case. If you have access to beeswax sheets or pellets, that would be a better choice! - In my case, I grated some beeswax and used leftover beeswax sheets for this recipe. - Place a baking paper sheet on some heatproof surface. - Grate beeswax over a sheet of fabric. - Place another baking paper sheet on top of your fabric. - Set the iron to the hottest temperature (cotton) and iron your fabric until the wax melts. It might take a while. - You will need quite a lot of wax to cover the sheets fully. They literally need to be soaked in wax. - Carefully peel your fabric from the paper sheet and hang it to dry (it will dry very quickly!) #cottagecore #beeswaxwraps #naturaldiyideas My Instagram: www.instagram.com/dariashew'
